#55 Vetrans/Spain Park

On Monday March 8th I decided to pick a short trail that was within a good distance from my home. The Spain Park trail is roughly 14 miles from my home. The book listed the loop around the lake only. The picture to the left is actually of the cross country trail that extends under the bridge of Jaguar Drive and into the woods behind Jeff State. The whole thing appeared to be about a 5k. Kylie stayed on the leash for the most of it due to extremely heavy foot traffic. That's also why there aren't more pictures. I didn't want anyone thinking I was a creeper. It was the first sunny day we had seen in months so everyone was out here! I went around 3:30 pm. I should've thought that over more. Anyway, all that matters is that this is ONE DOWN, 59 TO GO!

time delay...

So I've been getting a lot of questions lately about how the hikes are going. To be honest it's been hella cold so I haven't been doing much of them. I did however do the Peavine Trail in Oak Mtn. State Park on February 20th, but before I could come home and blog about it I got a call form my mother stating that she had a stroke. The past 3 weekends have been spent in Mobile with her. So that's another delay, and she's doing well in case you were wondering.

When we have an abundance of warm weather, these posts will become more and more frequent :)

The Opener

Those of you that know me should have been able to know my title is a reference to a U2 song. Bono was singing about heroin, I shall make it apply to my little idea I have going on.

Since I have been out of college I have totally missed being a part of an athletic team and having goals. I know I can make that happen in my work life, but I do not want to become "the job".

So here's how my goal came about: I've been trying to spend at least one of my off days with my dog Kylie. She was used to spending a lot of time with me and I've pretty much neglected her. I've been hiking and borrowed a book from one of my co workers titled "60 hikes within 60 miles" of Birmingham. Seemed cool but I didn't crack it. My roommate had been reading "julie and Julia" and rented the movie. I asked what it was about and she said "this chick didn't have a goal or anything to work toward so she decided to cook her way through Julia Child's cookbook". I thought, ok, awesome. Cooking seemed lame, but what if I hiked my way through the Hiking book, took pictures, and took different friends along to each one, all while spending time with Kylie. That's an all around score. so yeah. You guys just let me know when you wanna come along. Some are day hikes, and some shall be a saturday and sunday trip while spending the night. Come along!
